Savings Bank of Maine is warning customers about a fraudulent email with the appearance of being sent from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The subject line of the email states: "check your Bank Deposit Insurance Coverage." This email and the website link included in the email are fraudulent. More specific information about the fraudulent email is posted on the FDIC website www.fdic.gov
in the "What's New" section.
As noted in the warning posted on the FDIC website, "the FDIC does not issue unsolicited e-mails to consumers." The same is true of Savings Bank of Maine. The bank will never email or telephone you to request your personal information or account information. If you receive such a request, do not provide any personal information and advise the bank about the contact.
If you have given out any personal or account information in response to this fraudulent email or any other suspicious request, please contact your local Savings Bank of Maine office immediately or call our Electronic Services Department at 1-888-424-4184, option 7.
Savings Bank of Maine is committed to protecting your privacy and safeguarding your financial information.
FDIC deposit insurance is temporarily increased from $100,000 to $250,000 per depositor through December 31, 2013.
Savings Bank of Maine is participating in the FDIC’s Transaction Account Guarantee Program. Under that program, through June 30, 2010, all non-interest bearing transaction accounts are fully guaranteed by the FDIC for the entire amount in the account. Coverage under the Transaction Account Guarantee Program (TAGP) is in addition to and separate from the coverage available under the FDIC’s general deposit insurance rules.
Savings Bank of Maine interest-bearing transactions accounts are not eligible for TAGP coverage with one exception, IOLTAs. The FDIC defines Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts (IOLTAs) as a non-interest bearing transaction account for purposes of the Transaction Account Guarantee Program. Therefore, Savings Bank of Maine IOLTA accounts are eligible for the coverage provided by TAGP.
